ACTL U.S. FOUNDATION APPROVES $150,000 IN GRANTS TOWARD LEGAL SERVICES FOR VICTIMS OF THE LOS ANGELES WILDFIRES

NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA (January 22, 2025) – The Foundation of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL) has approved two grants of $75,000 each to legal aid organizations providing services to benefit victims of the Los Angeles wildfires.

The first grant was awarded to Public Counsel, which is supporting FEMA and the County of Los Angeles Disaster Recovery Centers to assist those affected by the wildfires. President and CEO Kathryn Eidmann expressed her gratitude: “We are incredibly grateful to the ACTL Foundation for supporting our wildfire relief efforts. ACTL’s commitment to supporting our community during this critical time will make a significant impact, and we are honored to have your partnership in this essential work.”

The second grant was given to Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA). NLSLA provides free legal assistance for individuals and families affected by natural disasters, including fires, earthquakes and floods. Their services cover disaster-related issues such as filing claims with FEMA, housing, benefits, and other concerns. President and CEO Yvonne Mariajimenez said, “We are staffing the Disaster Recovery Centers, and your support helps us to help many fire survivors.”

The U.S. Foundation of the American College of Trial Lawyers is dedicated to improvement in the quality of trial and appellate advocacy, the administration of justice and the ethics of the profession. Said President David J. Hensler, “The Foundation’s grants will provide urgently needed funding to support the emergency legal assistance now being furnished to victims of the horrific Los Angeles wildfires by these two worthy grant recipients.”

The U.S. Foundation is funded by voluntary contributions, memorial gifts and bequests, and is designated as a 501(c)(3) organization.
