President Deane travelled to Portland on Wednesday, December 4 to attend the Oregon Fellows Dinner. The weather was overcast and chilly, but the ride in from the airport was pleasant and picturesque. The dinner was held at the Sentinel Hotel which brands itself as “Portland’s most storied hotel.” Dinner was well-attended, with Regent Carey Matovich and her husband Bob were also in attendance along with Past President Tom Tongue and his wife, Andrea and Foundation Trustee Joe Arellano. President Deane was also able to extend a warm welcome to the College to new inductee Dana Sullivan. State Chair Sarah Crooks updated the group on the activities of the State Committee, noting that they have had three candidates approved in the last year. President Deane made brief remarks about the strategic planning process, the new website, and redesigned logo. He also discussed the process by which the College issues public statements, to particular interest. Several Fellows expressed gratitude for the statements that the College had issued in defense of the judiciary and the rule of law.
