President Deane attended the Utah Fellows Dinner, held at the Alta Club in downtown Salt Lake City, a vintage club founded in 1883. Over forty Fellows, together with their spouses and other guests, attended the dinner, including State Chair Juli Blanch and Past President Fran Wikstrom. Judicial Fellow Paul Warner delivered a tribute to Judicial Fellow Brooke Wells, who had passed away just days before the meeting, and was remembered as the first woman to be inducted into the College from the State of Utah as well as the first woman named as a Magistrate Judge in the state. President Deane then delivered remarks to the attendees, including explaining the process and deliberation surrounding recent public statements, and encouraging Fellows to attend the upcoming 75th anniversary celebrations of the College in Washington, DC. Those in attendance also had a spirited discussion regarding Utah’s practice of remote jury selection for all juries, whether civil or criminal.
