Wallace Lightsey is an honors graduate of Harvard Law School and, prior to going into private practice, was a law clerk to Chief Justice Warren E. Burger and federal Court of Appeals Judge John Minor Wisdom.
He has tried over 100 trials in his career and has argued numerous appeals in the South Carolina appellate courts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has a diverse practice involving complex securities, corporate, and intellectual property cases, as well as news media and First Amendment disputes. In the area of First Amendment litigation, Wallace has represented Time Inc., Forbes, Gannett, The New York Times Company, The Associated Press, Sinclair Broadcasting, and Pulitzer Broadcasting. He also has an active practice litigating disputes over trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, and in recent years has been lead counsel in copyright lawsuits involving close to a billion dollars at issue.
Wallace is actively involved in matters of professional ethics, and served as the Chair of the South Carolina Commission on Lawyer Conduct from 1997 to 2004. He also served as President of the South Carolina Bar Foundation in 2011 and 2012.
