Suzelle M. Smith is a partner and co-founder of the Los Angeles law firm Howarth & Smith. Ms. Smith has extensive experience in complex litigation, professional malpractice, products liability, business and entertainment law and has tried numerous cases to verdict, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Some of her clients include Doris Duke and Olivia de Havilland of Gone with the Wind fame. She has represented NFL players, the Vatican, victims of Iranian sponsored terrorism, Oxford University, and many Fortune 100 companies. Ms. Smith was selected one of the top ten litigators in the United States for by the National Law Journal; she has been named as one of Americas Top 50 Women Litigators, and one of Californias Super Lawyers in litigation.
Ms. Smith received a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude, from Boston University and a Master of Philosophy from Oxford University. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law, Order of the Coif.
In addition to ACTL, Ms. Smith is an elected Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. She is on the Board of Trustees of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers; is an elected Fellow of the American Bar Foundation; is an elected Fellow of the International Society of Barristers; and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Ms. Smith is also a Trustee of the University of Virginia Law School Foundation.
In addition to a full-time trial practice at Howarth & Smith, Ms. Smith is a Lecturer in Law and permanent Visiting Fellow of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, England.
