Hon. Robert L. Ullmann

Hon. Robert L. (Bob) Ullmann (Ret.) served as a Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court from 2013-2025, including as regional administrative judge for criminal matters, regional administrative judge for civil matters, and chair of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s ad hoc committee on the grand jury, which was convened four times under his leadership.
Before becoming a judge, Bob was a partner and trial lawyer at Nutter, McClennen & Fish for 18 years, including seven years on the firm’s Executive Committee. Bob was also recognized for his extensive pro bono work.
Bob previously served for over 10 years as a federal prosecutor, including as First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of the Criminal Division in the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s Office, and as Senior Litigation Counsel appointed by Attorney General Janet Reno.
Bob currently teaches criminal law at Boston College Law School as an adjunct professor, and does pro bono immigration work.
