A 1962 summa cum laude B.A. graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now ULL), Richard Kennedy received a J.D from Tulane Law School in 1965. He was awarded the Tulane Law Schools Academic Scholarship and, as a member of the Moot Court Board, in his senior year he won Tulanes Moot Court Competition. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve and served as a captain in the Judge Advocate Generals corp. He was admitted that year to the Louisiana bar and, following his active duty, clerked for the Honorable Richard J. Putnam, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. court of Appeals for both the Fifth and Eleventh circuits, and the U.S. District courts for the Western, Middle and Eastern Districts of Louisiana. His trial experience includes cases in multiple state and federal courts in Louisiana and several other states. His professional memberships include the Maritime Association of the United States, Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, American Board of Trial Advocates, American College of Barristers (Senior counsel), American bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association, Bar Association of the Fifth cerciit, Lafayette Parish Bar Association, Master of the Bench in the American Inns of Court, Master of the Bench in the Acadiana and the John M. Duh Inns of Court (Emeritus) and the Outstanding Lawyers of American. Additionally, from 1994 to 2010 he taught trial advocacy at the LSU Paul M. Herbert Law Centers trial advocacy program.
