Paul graduated from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Chemistry in 1972. A short stint as a polymer researcher with 3M in St. Paul convinced Paul that he was not cut out to be a Chemist. Paul graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in January 1976.
Paul was a trial lawyer for 40 years. During the first two years following law school, Paul worked as the first full-time Assistant St. Louis County Attorney in Hibbing, MN where he was a criminal prosecutor. Paul then turned his attention to civil litigation for the remainder of his legal career. Paul devoted the last 24 years of his legal practice to helping patients and their families who had been harmed by medical errors and mistakes. Paul retired in 2016.
As a result of Pauls advocacy on behalf of his clients and his commitment to courtroom excellence he received state and national recognition. Martindale-Hubble, repeatedly gave Paul an AV Preeminent rating, its highest peer review rating for legal ability and ethical standards. Paul was invited to and became a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers. Paul was selected for inclusion every year since 2003 by The Best Lawyers in America in recognition of his litigation work in the trial areas of Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury.
Paul was active in community and legal organizations. He was a Past Chairman of the Board of the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce, a Past Chairman of the Board of Polanski Medical Rehabilitation Center, a past Board Member of the Kitchi Gammi Club, a Past President of the Duluth Trial Lawyers Association, a Past President of the Eleventh District Bar Association and a Past Board Member of the Minnesota Association for Justice.
