Mr. O’Connor has been a member of Baum O’Connor Cullen Chmiel, P.C. for 24 years. His practice is devoted exclusively to the defense of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, hospitals, and nursing homes in medical malpractice cases. Brian has represented physicians of all specialties including emergency medicine, radiology, ophthalmology, optometry, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, otolaryngology, radiation and medical oncology, pulmonology and internal medicine. Brian also frequently represents physicians in licensing matters before the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine.

Mr. O’Connor has tried over 60 jury trials in all of the counties of Western Pennsylvania and the Federal Courts of the Western and Middle District of Pennsylvania. He has represented hundreds of physicians and nurses in mediations and arbitrations in healthcare-related litigation.

Mr. O’Connor is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member in the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County. He has also been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is a frequent lecturer to physician groups, as well as the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Brian is also a member of the Healthcare Law Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association.

Since 2009, Brian has been recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer for the defense of medical negligence cases. Since 2016 Brian has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America for his work in the practice area of Medical Malpractice Law- Defendants. In 2019, Brian was recognized by Best Lawyers in America as the Lawyer of the Year in the defense of Medical Malpractice cases.

Prior to joining Baum O’Connor Cullen Chmiel, Mr. O’Connor served as an Assistant District Attorney in Allegheny County, where he tried multiple jury trials and over a hundred non-jury trials.

Brian is active in the Pittsburgh community. He served for two decades as President of Christian Housing, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to providing housing to the elderly poor. Brian is also a Past President of the Pittsburgh chapter of the St. Thomas More Society.

Brian is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, District of Columbia and Federal courts for the Western and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania.
