A founding partner of LSW, John Siffert has built a widely respected and broad-ranging litigation practice. John successfully tried numerous civil and criminal cases to verdict, prevailed in commercial arbitrations, and argued before state and federal appellate courts.
Johns matters have involved claims of securities fraud, antitrust violations, professional misconduct, art law, intellectual property, cybercrimes, and FCPA violations. He has represented corporations, boards, audit and special committees, and law firms, as well as individual directors, senior officers, and law partners.
John has been involved in alternative dispute resolution throughout his practiceboth on behalf of his own clients, and as a court-appointed or privately engaged arbitrator, mediator, and special master. John is an FCIArb, a Distinguished CPR Neutral, and is on the AAA Rosters of Commercial Arbitrators and Mediators. John is also a member of the Second Circuit and Southern District of New York Pro Bono Mediation Panels.
John has served as Regent, Trustee of the Foundation, and founding Chair of the Mentoring Committee, the Chair Admission to Fellowship Committee, and the Chair Downstate New York Committee.
John has been on the faculty at NYU School of Law since 1979 and is the co-author of Sand, Modern Federal Jury Instructions, in addition to numerous articles and book chapters.
Chief Justice Roberts appointed John to the Advisory Committee on Evidence Rules from 2023-2029. Previously, Chief Justice Roberts appointed John to the Adjunct Committee on Federal Criminal Rules from 2012-2018.
John received the 2024 New York Council of Defense Lawyers
Norman S. Ostrow Award for outstanding contribution to the defense of liberty and the preservation of individual rights, the 2024 ACTL Downstate Leon Silverman Award, the 2020 New York Lawyers for the Public Interest Law & Society Award, the 2018 American Friends of the Hebrew University George A. Katz Torch of Learning Award, the Marquis Whos Who Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2014 Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth Healing and Hope Award, and the 2009
American Inns of Court Second Circuit Professionalism Award.
John was an Assistant U.S. attorney in the SDNY and served as a law clerk to Hon. Murray I. Gurfein. He was graduated from Columbia Law School and Amherst College.
