Jim Murray leads Blank Rome’s policyholder-only insurance coverage practice, formerly the insurance practice of Dickstein Shapiro LLP. His work in high-profile, challenging cases across the country has earned him consistent praise from clients, opposing counsel and jurors.
A Delaware court recently approved a $123 million class action settlement, noting in its published opinion that “…the Court must commend [the policyholder] and its nationally renowned coverage counsel, James R. Murray, Esquire, for their tireless efforts in overcoming many obstacles to obtaining insurance coverage […].” In a Law360 interview, a former adversary representing AIG singled out Jim as a litigator he “feared going up against in court.”
Jim has litigated cases in 24 states for clients such as IBM, Boeing, Actavis, Kraft Heinz, GAF, McDonnell Douglas, Wells Fargo, Colfax, IndyMac Bank, Corporate Risk International, Immunex, 3M and Costco. He has also represented numerous directors and officers, as well as governmental entities and religious institutions. He has served on six separate occasions as appointed special insurance coverage counsel to Chapter 11 debtors. He has testified as an expert witness in a bankruptcy court adversary proceeding regarding directors and officers insurance policies.
Law360 named him a “MVP” in Insurance in 2013 and 2011. Chambers USA notes that Jim has “…as much start-to-finish trial experience as any coverage lawyer out there…[with] the ability to earn immediate respect in the courtroom.”
