PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Deborah articled to Peter Royal, Q.C. and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1999. She practiced with Royal, McCrum, Duckett, Glancy & Hatch in Edmonton, Alberta for many years. In 2015, Deborah founded the Hatch Law firm. Deborahs practice is exclusively a criminal defence one, devoted to criminal trial and appellate litigation. She has appeared at all levels of Court in Alberta and at the Supreme Court of Canada many times. She has also represented both individual and corporate clients facing quasi-criminal matters such as regulatory and environmental charges. Ms. Hatch has been a Director of the CCCDL (Canadian Council of Criminal Defence Lawyers) since 2012 and is a former member of the Law Societys Criminal Practice Advisory Committee and the Law Societys Education and Credentials Committee. She was also President of the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association 2009-2011. She is currently an Advocacy Adviser with the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute, has taught Evidence law for several years at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, and maintains a busy criminal defence practice.
