Aubrey graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975 where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He obtained his law degree in 1979 from the University of Virginia where he was a Dillard Scholar. His 40 year law career in Richmond began with the firm of Browder Russell followed by a 25 year partnership at Cantor Stoneburner Ford.
Aubrey has tried over 150 jury trials to verdict. His litigation practice has included cases involving commercial disputes, legal malpractice, employment discrimination, civil rights, and wrongful death.
Aubrey was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2007 and was also recently inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Aubrey has been listed in Best Lawyers In America since 1999. He was named one of the Top Ten Virginia Super Lawyers for three consecutive years.
Aubrey is a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, having completed a rigorous two-year training program through led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. He has maintained a regular meditation practice for fifteen years and has attended extended silent retreats with Thich Nhat Hanh, Omega Institute and Insight Meditation.
