In late January, President Day travelled to Coral Gables, Florida for the Tri-State Regional Meeting. Fellows from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida attended the event at the Biltmore Hotel, beginning with a reception on Thursday evening. The program on Friday featured opening remarks from State Chair Angelo Pattaca, remarks regarding trial practice by federal district court judges Hon. Roy Altman and Hon. Rodolfo Ruiz, and remarks regarding early Florida history by Dr. Leslie Poole. Fellow Alex Alvarez ended the morning program by interviewing Bill Corben, an American documentary film director who directed Cocaine Cowboys (a film which actually featured former homicide detective and now-Fellow Alex Alvarez) about corruption and crime in South Florida. The event concluded on Saturday, with speakers Walter Bond, a former professional basketball player turned motivational speaker; Dr. James Lynch, a retired Army Colonel treating PTSD in soldiers; and novelist Carl Hiaasen, who provided all attendees with a copy of his recent book, Fever Beach.
