President Deane attended the Ontario Fellows Dinner in Toronto on May 22. Over 100 Fellows and guests attended the dinner held at Alobar, a chic, upscale cocktail bar in the financial district rumored to have been owned by the rapper Drake and reserved entirely for the Ontario Fellows. Province Chair J. Thomas Curry and Vice Chair Sandra Barton hosted the event, and attendees included several recent inductees. Avery Wilson, a second-year law student at Osgoode Hall who had recently been awarded Best Oralist at the Gale Cup competition, was also present at the dinner. The Ontario Fellows presented the David W. Scott Award to Fellows Don Bayne and Martha McCarthy for their commitment to pro bono representation. Past President Jeffrey Leon then introduced President Deane, who gave brief remarks highlighting the College’s hiring of a public relations firm and updating the Fellows present on the implementation of the strategic plan. Following the dinner, on May 23, President Deane delivered the keynote address at a meeting of The Advocates’ Society in Toronto. His remarks highlighted the importance of ethics and professionalism in the practice of law.
