President-Elect Sandy Forbes travelled to San Francisco for the Northern California Fellows Dinner. Held at The City Club of San Francisco, famous for a number of reasons, the Club displays a well-known mural by Diego Rivera.

The dinner was well attended with approximately one hundred fellows and guests present. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Charles Renfrew Award to Hon. Stephen Breyer, who hails from the Bay Area. Justice Breyer, an Honorary Fellow of the College, was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Joanna Breyer, and many members of his family, including his brother, Hon. Charles Breyer, also a Fellow.

State Chair Jeff Fisher welcomed the Fellows and introduced Regent Bill Keane, who in turn introduced President-Elect Forbes. Her remarks focused on two priorities identified during the 2024 strategic planning process: First, that the College has a role in protecting judicial independence and the rule of law; and second, the importance of strengthening collegiality and Fellow engagement.

After dinner, State Vice Chair Shaffy Moeel, acknowledged Former Regent John L. Cooper, who passed away last year. The tribute was moving, especially with his wife, Katie Cooper, in attendance.

Next, Judge Breyer introduced his brother, Justice Breyer, and presented him with the Charles Renfrew Award. In receiving the Award, Justice Breyer remarked on the importance of civil engagement and how dear the College is to him. Justice Breyer believes the College played an important role in his nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The evening was well organized and a success, with attendees looking forward to gathering again next year.
