On May 29, 2025, President-Elect John Day traveled to the New Jersey Fellows Spring Event, which took place at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. The event centered on honoring a recipient of the Frank Dee Award. Dee, who passed away unexpectantly in 2016, was a former College State Chair and Regent, and a beloved member of the New Jersey group. The New Jersey Fellows give the award “to recognize individuals who demonstrate outstanding advocacy skills and dedication to improving the standards of trial practice and the administration of justice.” About forty-five Fellows and spouses were present, including Secretary Katie Recker and her husband Matt and Regent David Ross. After an extended cocktail hour, State Vice Chair Bill Wallach provided brief opening remarks, then President-Elect Day spoke about the Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., the work of the Judicial Independence Committee and Executive Committee on promoting rule of law and judicial independence issues, and encouraged Fellows to be on the hunt for new Inductees. After his remarks, the Frank Dee Award winners were announced, going to a double-Fellow team of Lauren Handler and her husband David Kott.
