With Regent Cal Mayo and his wife Caroline providing ground transportation, President Deane left Little Rock early the morning of Friday, December 6 and traveled to Jackson, Mississippi for the Fellows Dinner. After stopping in Clarksdale for a lunch of Southern staples such as fried catfish and fried chicken, President Deane arrived in Jackson and headed to the Fairview Inn where the dinner was to be held. The Fairview was built in 1903 in the Colonial Revival architectural style, complete with Corinthian Columns and an expansive front porch. It is fittingly on the National Register of Historic Places. The cocktail hour and dinner were attended by a large number of Fellows and guests, including State Chair Walter “Bubba” Morrison and his wife Yvette, Former Regent Christy Jones and State Committee Member Jessica McNeel, accompanied by her husband Judge Taylor McNeel, who had recently been appointed to the federal district court bench in the Southern District of Mississippi. President Deane gave brief remarks to finish the evening with the collegial and warm Mississippi group.
