Richard A. Frye has been a Common Pleas judge in Franklin County, Ohio since 2005, having been elected three times.
The Moritz College of Law alumni society at The Ohio State University awarded him the Judge William K. Thomas judicial excellence award in 2013. Judge Frye received the 2012 Liberty Bell Award from the Columbus Bar Association, for his work as chair of the judges committee that oversaw design and construction of the new Franklin County Courthouse. He was one of the judges featured in the 2014 IAALS / American College of Trial Lawyers publication Working Smarter, Not Harder: How Excellent Judges Manage Cases. Before going to the bench, Judge Frye was in private practice for over 30 years, and became a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and a Life Member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference. He completed three terms as a member of the Case Management Committee of the Ohio Supreme Court, and is now a member of the Court’s Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure in Ohio Courts. Judge Frye also serves as an officer of the Columbus Bar Foundation.
