Randy and his wife Amy (A/K/A Hon. Amy P. Eddy, District Judge, Montana 11th Judicial District) live just east of Kalispell, Montana, 35 miles from the entrance to Glacier National Park. Their blended family includes Randys son Travis (mechanical engineer) and daughter, Hallie (Chief Deputy Yellowstone County Attorney), both of whom live and work in Billings, Montana, and Amys daughters Stella (Restaurant manager, Missoula, Montana) and Carmen (student, University of Utah).
Following his graduation from the University of Montana School of Law in 1977, Randy began his trial practice with an insurance defense firm in Billings. In 1988, he formed a boutique plaintiffs firm with an emphasis on products liability and insurance bad faith. In 1985, the Montana Supreme Court appointed Randy to its newly created Commission on Pattern Civil Jury Instructions (MPI Commission) where he served until 2023. The Montana Supreme Court also appointed Randy to Montanas Judicial Nomination Commission (1997 2005). In 2015, he returned to the law school in Missoula, this time as adjunct professor teaching torts, products liability, insurance law and as co-coach of the U of M Trial Team.
