John Lorn McDougall is an independent arbitrator associated with Arbitration Place in Toronto and 3 Verulam Buildings in London. Previously, he was a partner at Dentons Canada LLP and its predecessor law firms. His practice has encompassed almost all aspects of corporate and commercial dispute resolution. Mr. McDougall has appeared in a wide variety of complex cases in the courts and in arbitration. He has particular experience in securities, competition and energy-related matters, class actions and insolvency, as well as extensive experience in cross-border cases involving multi-national clients. He has sat as an international arbitrator since 1990.
Mr. McDougall served as chairman of the Canadian National Arbitration Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce and is presently a Canadian representative to the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. He is a member of other panels of international arbitrators including the London Court of International Arbitration, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution and sits on the ICDR Canadian Advisory Committee, the CPR Institute, the American Arbitration Association, the ADR Institute of Canada, the BC International Arbitration Centre and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is a chartered arbitrator. He is an honorary bencher of the Middle Temple, London.
