John Day practices plaintiff’s personal injury law, including products liability and medical negligence cases, across the state of Tennessee from offices in Nashville, Brentwood, and Murfreesboro. He began his law practice in Nashville in 1981 and started his firm in 1993.

Currently the 76th President of the American College of Trial Lawyers, John has also served as President of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and President of the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is a member of the American Law Institute, where he has worked on several portions of the Restatement (Third) of Torts. He graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and served on the North Carolina Law Review.

John is the author of Day on Torts: Leading Cases in Tennessee Tort Law, Tennessee Law of Civil Trial, and Tennessee Law of Wrongful Death, and is co-author of Tennessee Law of Comparative Fault. John has written over eighty articles in peer-reviewed legal publications and given hundreds of continuing education lectures, primarily on the law of torts and civil procedure. He has served for over thirty years as one of two non-judges on the Pattern Jury Instruction Committee (Civil) for the Tennessee Judicial Conference.

John and his wife Joy live in Brentwood, Tennessee, and are the parents of three children. Sarah lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Michael lives in Atlanta and works remotely for a team based in Seattle. Kate attends undergraduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In his spare time, John enjoys reading, politics, travel, and hiking, and is an enthusiastic Sea Doo rider, having ridden over 40,000 miles on Tims Ford Lake in Tennessee.
