Access to Justice and Legal Services Committee
Mandate:
In accordance with policies and procedures established by the Board
of Regents, to encourage and facilitate, through the National Access to
Justice Committee and State and Province Access to Justice Committees,
the provision of pro bono legal services by individual College Fellows
to persons who are unable to afford counsel competent to represent such
persons effectively in litigation of the complexity and difficulty
presented.
Dear Fellows:
Welcome to the virtual world of the Access to Justice Committee of
the American College of Trial Lawyers. This is the first such
website and is part of a project that the Executive Committee and Board
of Regents hope will provide broader access to the workings of the
College to all Fellows. President Gregory P. Joseph has been
particularly instrumental in conceptualizing this cyber-effort to ensure
that projects of the College's committees are accessible to all Fellows,
whether those projects originate at the state and province level or from
our standing committees.
It is noteworthy that this - the first general committee website - comes
to us from the Access to Justice Committee, an extremely-active group of
devoted and involved Fellows. Your assistance in bringing
noteworthy public service cases to the attention of the Committee, and
in volunteering to take on cases appropriate to your practice, is
crucial to the Committee's ongoing success. Your communication
with the members of the committee can be a fulfilling first step in
giving back to the profession, and to the College.
Please contact a member of this year's Access to Justice Committee with
your ideas, suggestions, and offers of assistance.
To those of you active in State/Province or General Committees, please
contact the staff of the National Office if you would like to utilize
the College website to reach out to the Fellowship regarding the work of
your committee.
Thanks to Greg, to Scott Bryan, to the Access to Justice Committee, and
to all who have helped launch this exciting new effort.
Sincerely,

Joan A. Lukey
Immediate Past President
